Case Study 1: Mac Air 2012 Sleep Mode

Client had been using Mac Air for 17 months without any problems until one day the the Macbook went into sleep mode and won’t come out of it. Client brought the laptop to a local repair shop but they could not get the data off the drive. Client then took the laptop to the Apple Genuis Bar but they also could not read anything from the hard drive and fitted a new hard drive to laptop at a cost of £185.

We received hard drive in and quickly diagnosed that the disk had a mechanical fault. The read/write head got stuck on the disk platters. We managed to unstuck the read/write head and quickly imaged the disk on our quickest imaging machine for a full data recovery.
