Privacy policy

Plain English information about what we collect, why, and how we protect the data on your device. Last updated: August 2026.

Who we are

Staines Data Recovery offers professional data recovery services for customers in Staines, Surrey and throughout the United Kingdom. Our recovery work is carried out at our secure receiving laboratory: Building 2, Ground Floor, Guildford Business Park, Guildford, GU2 8XH. Contact us about anything in this privacy policy on 0800 689 0668 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm).

What we collect and why

When you complete either our enquiry form or our free diagnostic form, we will ask for your name, telephone number, email address and a description of the issue with your device. This information is used by us solely to respond to your enquiry, produce diagnostics and quotes, and administer your data recovery job. Your details are not shared or sold to any third party for marketing purposes, and we do not undertake any direct marketing ourselves.

The data on your device

Once your device arrives at our secure laboratory it is logged in and only accessed by our engineers. Any recovered data is then copied onto encrypted media ready for its safe return to you. Upon confirmation from yourself that you have received all of your files safely, our working copies are securely erased. We never browse, use or disclose the contents of your device except as needed to carry out the recovery you've asked for, or where the law requires.

How long we keep information

Enquiry information will be retained for as long as is required to complete the job and for our basic business records. Working copies of recovered data are deleted upon confirmation that everything has been safely received by the customer; normally this occurs within 14 days of return.

Your rights

You have rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): you have the right to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you, the right to amend it and the right to have it erased if we no longer require it. Please contact us on 0800 689 0668 regarding any requests and we will respond quickly. In the event that you feel we have mishandled your personal information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
