A stripe is built for speed, not safety. With no parity and no mirror, the array can't reconstruct the missing stripes on its own — which is exactly why professional imaging matters.

Controller or enclosure failure

A dead controller, bridge or enclosure can take a healthy stripe offline. The disks are fine, but the stripe geometry has to be worked out before the volume can be reassembled.

Lost stripe parameters

Recreating the array, or a firmware fault, can lose the block size, disk order and offset that define the stripe. Get these wrong and the data reassembles as garbage — we determine them precisely from the images.

Bad sectors across members

Because every file is spread across all disks, bad sectors on any one member punch holes in many files. Hardware imaging reads around the damage to recover the maximum.

Accidental re-initialise or reformat

Initialising or reformatting a striped volume to 'fix' it overwrites the metadata we need. If this has happened, stop immediately and power the system down.

We clone each member to a stable image with hardware imagers — repairing any physically failing disk in the clean-air lab first — then determine the exact disk order, block (stripe) size and offset, re-stripe the data virtually, and rebuild the file system to extract your files. Your original disks are never written to.

Why RAID 0 failures are urgent

With no parity or mirror, a RAID 0 array can't heal itself — one failed disk means every member has to be recovered together, and a physically failing drive gets worse each time it's powered on. If a drive has failed, power the system down and don't run 'repair' or initialise tools; the metadata they overwrite is exactly what we need to re-stripe your data.

Post or courier your device — it's simple

Most customers post or courier their media to us.

Sending a drive from a computer, laptop, MacBook, iMac, CCTV / DVR or server? Please remove the internal hard drive or SSD and send us just the drive — we don't provide an internal drive-removal service. We don't recover storage soldered to a motherboard (e.g. Apple Silicon Macs and some thin laptops) — only drives that can be removed and sent to us.

  • Wrap the device in bubble wrap or a padded envelope — no need to include cables or power supplies.
  • Print and enclose the booking-in & shipping form (PDF) with your name, phone number and a brief description of what happened.
  • Send by Royal Mail Special Delivery or any tracked courier for full insurance in transit.
  • Prefer to hand it over in person? You can drop it in at reception at the address shown, Mon–Fri 9:00am–5:30pm.
